Little Cooper was up for a visit last night to get some Scottish Burlap, he rolled around on the floor and found the perfect spot to watch us finish dying some yarn.

This is the whipping for a project that Nancy and Grace are working on, sometime it is just easier to dye the exact wool / yarn color as to search the craft stores for a compliementary color.

I'm still amazed that everyone is using a MagicJack, I have used this little device several times while travelling. It can be hooked up a LAN phone (even cordless) or just plug into the jack on the side of your laptop for audio. I didn't pay the extra to have a Canadian phone number but who cares it's FREE calling.

I was given this little change purse which my MagicJack just fits perfectly in it, the embellishments are so adorable.

Update on a new project that Nancy is starting. Several photos of a family pet are being used to custom dye the various shades of wool needed. I will post an update on this portait next time she brings it in for viewing.

More and more wool to be dyed this spring.

busy with the new in-floor heat kit going into the second bathroom. The electrician forgot to install the wiring for this heat kit so it had to be installed after the fact, disconnecting the baseboard heater and cutting holes in the wall. and then of course foam insulation again.

Beside the kettle to boil my dye water you will see the piles of tools that are being used to rennovate my bathroom.

Insulation is a wonderful product if your not the person that has to install it. And guess who was nominated to do that job 'me' I survived and the sheetrock is now on also. Notice the path to reach the wool bolt on the shelf -- little fancy foot work to get around in this room.

Do you see anything unusual about this photo above? I was talking to a friend of mine coming out the the Wool Shop and she looked up and said " look at the shape on your tree". Last year the tree was growing over the new entrance to the Wool Shop and it's branches were cut back.

Dying for Winter to Leave

Some new colors dyed this week, technique: painted and rolled in tinfoil to bake.

To add to the fun I had Libby (my dog) Cooper (mom's dog) and Luke (foster dog) running around in the dye kitchen with me, Luke was only with me a week but he did leave a special place in my heart. Luke loved to cuddle in bed and on the couch unlike my little independent Libby.

Luke supervised the color planning of the next Loon pattern, above are two different version of the same pattern that Nancy and Grace are hooking away on.

The Last Post

This final post standing in the garage project, as of today I'm garage-less. I have to decide now if I'm going to just get a small mini-barn or re-build a garage, either way it will not be as larger as the last one 28 X 30 taking up the whole yard.
It will take several months before the snow is gone and I can even landscape the backyard so I'll worry about that later.

My little orphan Annie has a potential adoptee family coming to see her tomorrow, hoping for success as the longer she is here the more attach I get but Libby is awaiting her departure. Libby prefers life being the Pack Leader of the house.

I Promise, I Promise

I just made a promise to myself to start posting more, I'm not sure what the problem is? there is always sometime going on around here. I even have my HomePage as the Blog Page just to remind me, "hey you better get posting"

I just brought home an 8 week old puppy from the shelter for foster care, the garage is being demolished today. O ya, and I do work all week so the stories that I could tell but are probably not for public consumption. And there are always new colors of wool being dyed.

Anyway hope you enjoy the photos of my new little foster girl, the Shelter is just packed with unwanted dogs and there is a storm coming tomorrow AGAIN so she would probably just be sitting in an old cage for 2 days. She's a smart little thing she is almost housetrained as long as you are in puppy mode and let her out often and don't free feed. Last night was her first night with no littermate as the shelter scooped her up from an on-line buy, sell, & giveaway swap shop as a "free puppy". She has no name yet if there are any thoughts from my followers.

Something OLD and Something New & Libby

Now to the interesting part of my day,

My garage roof collapsed last night, I awoke to a terrible sounds of cracking wood and falling snow. Poor old Betsy could not take the huge snow load from our last storm. Photo above: is from my bedroom window view and Photo below: front on view. All is not lost as I have insurance and no one was hurt in this disaster. God is always looking down on me and protecting me. Have a Great Weekend everyone.

Light the Way and Dye Yarn

New lighting at the Rug Studio this weekend. The first photo: the four-way light fixture had two broken light bulbs right out of the box back to Home Depot this weekend to replace them. Now I'm only one light fixture short in the whole area. Finally a little more progress. Steps are still on the un-done list.

I've recently starting to dye yarn as a new product in the shop. I met another rug hooker that hooks with yarn myself personally I had never dyed yarn nor hooked with yarn other than a small blotch here and there for some reason. The lady in the photo is Mary who started to hook with yarn a few years back and now always hooks with yarn. Mary came into the shop one day and said " Do you sell yarn?" I had some yarn for whipping but it had not occurred to me to custom dye yarn, I said' No, but I Can" So we picked a few custom colors in the 6-value swatches and the rest is history.

Fishy Situation

I may never eat fish again. Off to the local grocery store today in a storm just to get out of the house - little shack wacky - I'm shopping around for some deals and I see this Haddock markdown down 30% off, I thought ummm on sale as it is due today but I'm going home to fry this delicacy and treat myself. When I got back to the truck Libby was smelling the groceries and I thought Libby is all excite to have some fresh fish tonight also.

I few hours after being home I grabbed the fish out of the fridge and cut the packaging open, OMG the smell is still in my nose!!! the odor was more than I could stand, I quickly re-packaged the fish, put it back in the fridge to stop the smell from circulating around my kitchen. I can't believe a store would sell Old Smelly Fish.

I have since returned the fish to the store for a refund, but not sure if eating fish any time soon is in my future.

Santa is gone for another Year

Libby and I had another wonderful Christmas together, she was a good sport and wore her Santa Suit Christmas Eve.

My little sheep is hooked and stitched, this was my first try and I really struggled with sewing the pattern inside-out on Scottish Burlap (my mother's favorite) If and when I do another sheep I will do two things different: I will be putting the pattern on Rug Warp and make the pattern just a bit larger.

BTW - I think I forgot some one's rug warp for the third or fourth time. t

Sheepy Day

Rushing to get these two sheep done, tomorrow night I will learn how to sew the pattern together, they must be on the burlap nose to nose to get the right fold over 'I'm assuming?'

Learned a lesson quickly after the first side, don't do all the swirly circles all at once if you are using larger wool because you have to go back pick and find the missing holes and with this pattern being stuffed / wool packing would be the key. Minimal Holidays are allowed on this one as with a purse pattern.

My little sheep will have legs very soon and ears.

Nancy's Rug Display at the Fibre Arts Festival 2010

Nancy's Rug Display at the 2010 Fibre Arts Festival, if you are wondering about the layout of the display the biggest difficultly was the fact that this was a Church Building with 'very' low lighting and alter chairs and religious area layout. So we moved the chairs around and tied strings to the rugs to show her larger patterns, with smaller rugs on the alter, laying on longer tables and along the floor of the main area.

This is the week of the Annual Fibre Arts Festival here in Amherst Nova Scotia, my mother Nancy Burke is displaying her rugs today so it was a busy few days this week as she never finishes whipping most rugs -- not that I never finish anything either.

Hit or Miss Day

Hit or Miss Rug is starting to come together, as most hookers know this is the perfect pattern for extra worms.

Supper twice this week was a large pan of scallops, I split the package and cooked them two different ways. ummm I wish fresh scallops were on the weekly meal plan more often.

My little lucky bamboo plants is just growing like crazy, I have to re-pot him this week, I think he likes the new dining room finally got the curtains hemmed and hung. And the mirror to open the space up more.

Momz Wool help design this SailBoat pattern for a client, the hooker of this rug was in to pickup some additional shades of white and beige for the sails, with the ocean water being done in a very unique aqua blue shade being complimented by an extremely light sky with a few soft clouds. I've heard this rug has been completed and I will update if this lady comes back to the shop for a visit.

Rescue Animals - Just Part of My Life Now

I was just reading Rugs and Pugs blog and her passion to save rescue animals and I thought I'd share a few furry friends that I helped save recently. These 4 kittens came to my house one friday night we were unsure if they would live. Their mother had not returned for over a day and their fate was sure to be starvation.

I agreed NOT wholeheartedly to take the kittens into my new rug hooking kitchen and see if they could eat enough to survive, we mixed up a homemade milk :corn syrup, eggs, water (and vitamins) as the vet was closed for the night.

We started feeding them every 4 hours and sure enough in the morning they were still alive. They grew every day and ate and ate special vet "mother's milk" This is one of the reasons I have been busy and not posting alot I've been mother to 4 kittens with a 4-6 hour feeding schedule. LOL

Ready for adoption now, stronger than ever.

I awoke to the chatter of people and addition noise on Saturday morning past. It was a Cross Border Challenge Race running by my house. Now there is something you don't see everyday! I sat on the front step and watch all those very eneretic people speeding by my house had to been a hundred or them or more. After the runner and walkers went by there was a Bag Piper Band lining up with the Finish Line in view of my walkway.

So after all the excitement I went back to the couch and enjoyed the morning news. Maybe someday I'll do the run, ummm not.

Started with some Blue

First color dyed in my new space is a very light blue for a friend, it was 128th blue/black in 2 cups of water, this is a bored color but just what the lady need for the sky in her newest rug.

Cooper is back for a visit again, growing very fast and enjoying finger biting as his favorite activity. Google says it will be a few more weeks of this biting and the second teeth will start to come in, OMG I hope he is an early bloomer.

Something Old, Something New and More Reno. Updates

Something Old : Missy my Foster Dog is still here at my house I was sure she would be adopted within a few days. She is the perfect little house dog, housetrained and affectionate till that special day when the right application comes in she is here sharing (hogging) my bed.

Something New: an addtional to the dog pack here at my house is a 13 week old puppy that I'm babysitting tonight. Cooper is in his teething stage biting and grabbing at any toes or soft objects that move.

Rennovations Update..............

On to some new reno. updates this week, finally, finally I have a double sink, running water (in and out) and under cabinet lighting. The counter tops are just perfect I bought the counter tops before the cabinets and worried about the colors clashing but I'm save staying with these warm tones.

This is the scene of my weekend project last week, but this weekend all it did was RAIN. My Chiropractic loves it when I do project like this, I helped start a new flower bed for my boyfriends house. I'm hoping to be out in my flower beds again very soon. -- Chiropractic here I come again. I know the lawn grew all weekend damn-it that new grass grows faster than I can cut it.

So I'll have to pray for sun for next weekend getting ready for a Yard Sale at my house.

Paint it yourself

Kim came over to visit and pick out the colors for the OutHouse Pattern's night sky that she is hooking away on, we looked through the color books and choice 2 blues and a light lavender tone.

I handed her the paint brush and said "here paint it yourself" she looked at me a little funny and said ahh OK? well I created a monster I think the paint was flying quickly up and down the wool LOL I quite enjoyed watching her with that little smile swinging the brush high and low. We salted it , rolled it up and off to the oven.

I dyed the lavendar color and let her back at the wool again... The smile was getting larger as she went!!

Out of the oven with steam still coming off the tin foil, it's ready for the clothesline.

Take 2, this is the second wool piece that I painted. Added a bunch of colors little yellow, blue, green and voilet I had in the house.

Foster Dog for the Weekend

Update on my Rug Studio, I have 4 of the 5 doors on and approx. 70% of the moldings complete. These are the oraments still hanging out in my basement and about 2 inches of dust covering the floors.

I have been trying and trying to get my head back into rug hooking and dying but it seems that I have too many 'energy vampires' biting at my neck. In life you have to been careful of these creatures as people will keep asking for more and more of your time and skills. So back off Vampires and get your own life!!!

Because I have been so tarty I should have a wool giveaway!! ummm, tonight after I spend the evening doing Interviews for my volunteer group, I'll pick out some wool and post the details tomorrow. Second surprise will be a small burlap Santa pattern.

Meet Lugnut the newest member of the family

Lugnut is the newest member of the family, my grandfather has adopted the neighbors dog who was tied out to a dog house for over a year. Grandpa would bring him over treats and watched out for the dog to make sure his basic needs were met. After a series of events my grandfather basically rescued this lovable, affectionate and very smart dog.

The strange name comes from the original owner being a mechanic and named the dog 'lugnut' ?? Lugnut's first visit was to a local grooming shop as he was too smelly to enter a vet clinic. Second visit was to the vet clinic where he was neutered and lost the 'nut' of his name , get it LOL We have been trying to call him by lugger just to change up the strange name. The photo above is of Lugnut just after his trip to the grooming shop and was quick to dig in the mud.

The other update is the electrical being done in the Rug Studio, finally I have power and can plug into the walls and there is HEAT. I have a bundle of moldings with my name on them in the garage just waiting to be painted. So that will be my excitement later in the week.

Update on the basement rooms all the floors are in now. First pic is the Wool storage room with the floors starting to be done.

Grand Room with most of the Fireplace painted. I painted more of the Fireplace tonight not a fun job.

Kitchen is not done yet in this photo.

And another future project on my big list is this old entrance to the basement, saving this one for last so that contractors don't re-damage the walls.

It was a very busy weekend for me, Saturday and Sunday were mostly consumed with painted my soon to be Rug Hooking Studio, I would say about half of the area is painted now and the fireplace is partly done also. I didn't think the drywall guy would ever finish he would come to the house for a few hours once a week, weeks went by and then months. But all's well that ends well.

Thought I'd share a pretty pooch pattern on this Sunday night, the small photo in the left had corner is all that Nancy had to go by. She photocopied the photo to get the shading details which is a common practice. As you can see from the photo he is hooked with many shades of black and grey.

The last photo is the finished product.

It's been awhile since I posted so thought I better get at it. Work has been absorbing most of my time and I'm not getting any dying or hooking done and the old saying goes " all work and no play making Corinne a cranky girl "

Anyway thought I'd share the update for a friends hooking project, I'm liking the colors of the throw mat which is a recycled pattern and overall coral background for these dogs personally, well maybe because I picked the backround color out hehehe ..

Round and Around the Circle We Go

Nice & Easy Circle Pattern

Nancy has been hooking on this one and help another beginner hooker work on hers, the background is a Dark Golden Yellow and I'm not sure what the shade is in the circles some variety of green hues. Going around the circle it is actually better to use a hoop than a lap frame as you are constantly moving the rug around on your lap.

If you are looking for a Pattern for that beginning in your group, this might be an idea to use.

Update from March 11 Two Horses

Update on the Two Horses from March 11, they are completely finished now, the background color in the border around the outside was dyed in the same pot as the yard used for whipping. The colors are very complimentary.

I survived day one of my newest course - class starts at 8:30am Eastern time, so it's 9:30am Atlantic, bringing my day to 5:30pm before class is over, So what do I do? Spend from 8:00am till class time rushing around making sure all the staff are OK before I jump into my Virtual World. Libby is providing her moral support as usually if there is any confusion the head is on the left and she does still have a pulse.

She doesn't know it yet but she is only one or two days away from a bath shhh......

Monochromatic Design with a Green Twist

This is an interesting piece my mother did, she took a class from Barbara Leduc, Teacher RHGNS at Joyce LeMoine's home here locally.

I had never heard about Monochromatic Designs till this point, to me personally the idea sounded a bit intimidating as I'm not a highly skilled hooker myself.

Mom decided to use all the multiple shades of green for Santa and his bag of toys and 3 toned natural , white and celery colors for the snowy background. Using the different shades in the background other than green is not an exactly a true monochromatic but I think this projects a nice effect.

Public Groups in FaceBook are they really Public? not in my World

OK I have to vent again, I know it's Sunday and all.

This one boggles my mind, there is a local FaceBook Group for the LA Animal Shelter and I would off and on upload some pictures on-line after I updated the website, I didn't really notice at first that my postings were being removed, You see O NO this has been going on for months. One of my relatives happened to comment on the picture of a dog Rex I uploaded, and when I was in my HotMail account that I use for my FaceBook account, I clicked on Sonia's comment, I scratch my head at first, my posting is gone? Where did it go? I went into the FaceBook Group and sure enough the admin (who will not let any paying committee members or Board Members be in the Admin or Officer Section that's another story) she removed my posted and re-added the posting under her name.

I'm just baffled by people, this is the comment when I emailed and asked her.

Quote: " I remove them Corrine because it is my responsibility to post new photos of new arrivals at the shelter, as the group administrator I feel that is my responsibility. There are not many things I can do with the shelter because of my schedule this is one of the few things I can work on, but when someone else comes in and does it, where does that leave me?"

So the end of my story is this, I (the VP this year) will not post anymore new animals for now in the Public FaceBook Forum, and ignore this person but I don't forget, did I mention that 62% of the population of Cumberland County is literate. I've been very busy with an on-line Virtual Course this week, in fact I lost my Virtual Server yesterday and had to re-build all last night, it was my stupidity so don't feel sorry for me.

But I had to stop and share this rug, look at the eyes are they not life like? I can just picture these horse (they look female to me) coming up to the fence waiting for some grass clipping.

Another issue in my life yesterday was the local Animal Shelter being broken into, fortunately the monies for this weeks adoptions had just been picked up by our Treasurer. And they didn't steal any of the medicals and needles. They stole a Yogurt ummm must have been hungry? You know it takes a big person to steal from a local not-for-profit organization whom lives mostly on donations.

Maud Lewis another Classic - Nova Scotian Style

Maud Lewis is an interesting story from Nova Scotia, Canada, an extremely poor and physically disabled lady with talent to spare. Many a fiber artist will hook patterns originally designed by Maud Lewis. A hooker friend was in to buy some basic blue as she ran out around the top corners, I was quite surprised and inspired by this piece right from the moment she laid it out on the table. There is something about Nova Scotian talent Maud Lewis to Deanne Fitzpatrick (who's shop is just up the road and I really must get in to visit). O O !! I almost forgot Marilyn B was the hooker of this rug.

Dog and Cat Pattern - Perrrrfect

Look at this pattern, this is a very old Classic print that I bet many of your have seen before?

I have seen this pattern hooked several different ways, a local hooker brought this one in and we are trying to decide the color of the background so as to not wash out the dog and cat on the print. I think the balance of the blue on the side bar, the cats bow and on the ball really make this pattern stand out. Great Job Grace.

Busy Few Days

I think this picture about sums up my last few days!!! But there is light at the end of the tunnel now, my foster puppy is back at the shelter, the kids are with their other family after a full 3 week visit, and I'm getting very focused at work. I will post some rug patterns from my friends that actually have time to 'hook' tomorrow.

Tonight is the Highland Hookers night and I finally get to see the girls again, I have been babysitting and not getting to the Hook-In.

Dianne and I felt so honored to be a part of the unveiling ceremony in Parrsboro on Friday, Feb. 19th. It was very well done. There were manylocal dignataries there as well as The Honorabe Ross Landry, Nova Scotia Attorney General and Minister of Justice. Many of you may remember the song Lydia Quinn and Francis Smith played when they presented the idea to us last year. Well, that song was sung by Audra Raulyns, herself a victim ofspousal abuse. There was not a dry eye in the place. What a voice!!!!!! I was able to get a picture of some of the members of the committee for the Cumberland Chapter . In the picture you see Francis Smith, Judi Giroux,Lydia Quinn, Dianne and myself. They were very, very pleased with the mat. Our mat was to go with the Remember Me silhouette. A lady from Parrsboro (Debbie Beil) hooked a mat that will be under the silhouette of Bernice Mills who was shot by her husband in 1997.

Bye Bye Insulation and a Touch of Green

I said goodbye to that ugly insulation in the basement kitchen (future kitchen) finally the whole area is white and clean. Now if I can get that little man to come back and fill in the screw hole and surface the ceiling I'll be on the phone with the electrician. I learned that our electrician's visit is only half my cost the other half the bill $$ will be coming O goodie, second part is attaching the wiring into the front plates and panel.

You will notice in the second pictures has a fireplace, I argued and argued to save this old fireplace entrance, the brick will be white washed and a wonderful design/ focal point.

And last but not least for my weekend's color picture. I took this picture with my kitchen plant just to help show the tones of this green (well brownish) color. Tonight is a gorgeous purple ummmm stay tuned.

Weekend Stars Project

Just a little weekend project with a leftover edge of my rug burlap. I'm using some recycled wool and just hooking outward till I run out of wool, great strategy eh? LOL

To the untrained eye it looks make a mess, well it is but .... this is the future kitchen sink of my Studio. The copper, ABS pipe ,electrical and natural gas water overflow lines had to be adjusted before my drywall guy can finish this area.

Fun and Games

Transitional Dying Fun and Games this week, I was not really concerned as much about the colors as the technique, so in saying that I threw in several layers of stripes from the mismatches ends box.

Each of these pieces is a different color : blue, soft pink, two pieces of red dipped dyes, natural, and camel herringbone, tan and beige .

Second night of fun was using these recycled pieces below to bleed into my natural Dorr stripes, the brightest colors of wool are lower quality wool that I would only cut by hand 'but' they are awesome colors to re-dye my natural and light camel herringbone.

Colors start to bleed through in the first 15 minutes on this is my second Transitional Dying project.

Final project, I think these are nice soft colors for Easter.

Three New Colors for my Wool Collection

And the wool addiction continues, my newest colors right off the drying rack - Sweet Lilac, a Dark Dark Oceany Blue, and another shade of Sea Green with reddish speck.

I'm hoping to sketch my Seascape today I can finally envision my pattern and that is the hardest part. It's not going to be elaborate a waterfront scene with a small old Dory Boat docked and the foliage along the waters edge. I'm still unsure if there will be any people, animals or buildings on the waterfront, but I'm refusing to copy off any pattern.

This is a little angel we saved this week, this is the only reason I tolerate the 2 legged creatures.

When I look into Leia's puppy eyes this 10 week old puppy who was saved with 2 other of her litter mates, her mother died shortly after giving birth as there was still one puppy inside her with the owners unknowing. Leia and the other 2 puppies that didn't die just after birth as some of the others because of the neglectful ownership having been saved being bottle feed from 5 weeks old at the LA Animal Shelter and are off to new loving homes.

Not alot of blog postings this week, work and personal life seem to have absorbed most of my energy, O and did I mention that I sit on the local Animal Shelter Board. Fun and Games this week, with the shelter you know the animals are not the problem most of the time it's the 2 legged creatures that get in the way to success.

Marbleized Wool

I did my first Marbleizing project this weekend, my colors are not as nice as Gene Shepherd's but they will do. I'm definitely putting yellow and teal in my next Dorr Order.

These are also two new colors I dyed this weekend. They are both greens, the one of the right is a blue / green more for an ocean scene and the left is a grassy green.

This is the order that came in this week, you should have seen the two of us getting this from the post office in a shopping cart into the car, I think they should invest in handles.

It's the little things in life that excite me - my new wool color Autumn Leaves (my non-hooker friends don't understand), the fact that my servers are finally 'getting along this week after two painful evenings at work' and the updates to my future wool hiding place in the basement

It is a dark, cold and stormy night in Canada but a glass of red wine and my red flannel PJ's just makes the evenings. I have wool soaking and ready to try a new cassrole dyed color in the morning wish me luck.

Ran out of Space

I've been running out of space to display wool, at some point you just start putting it where ever it will fit. Fortunately I was at the an auction this weekend and bought a small drying rack for $5.00 well as you know from auctions sometime they group items together, this picture is what I receive with my drying rack. It's hard to imagine now as it was covered in mack-tack with a nasty fake wood print and the chrome was rusty along the bottom. I scrubbed and used some sos pads and voila..... Today I started to put some of my speciality dyed wools on this stand. That is after I dyed a new Autumn Leaves color.

I think it now looks like something out of an IKEA catalogue!! Tks Grampa for bringing it home for me in your van.

And the best news of the weekend was that I found a different drywall guy, he is starting Tuesday as the other 'guy' never answers his phone and the weeks are going by, as I wait and wait.

Off to the shopping malls today with a Christmas gift card in hand, I'm now the proud owner of more bras and panties than one person needs. I have a new pair of pants that are long enough and a polar fleece sweater ( as the temp. drops down here by the day) and last but not least a "new dining room light fixture" I can see my wool that is still all piled up in the dining room as the basement studio is not hold for the drywall guy, everyone knows the story of 'the guy' as they hold you for ransom.

The words on the rug will stand out with the lighter colored background, I have know idea where the inspiration for this rug came from originally I was doing a earth tone primitive but this bright recycled blue for the flowers changed my mind. The colors I've been drawn to are softer than first plan so this will be a wall hanging for my bedroom. Size is approx. 38 X 18.

We ordered a new Wool Cutter in for someone's Xmas Gift, sorry it didn't make it through Customs in time :-( Miss. Claus I believe was going to deliver it yesterday. Rigby "D" with a 4 and 5 cut together. Hope you enjoy Mrs. C, great exchange on the dollar right now.

I'm working right along on my next rug, "Live" first word on the rug. Really without a pattern per say, started with a rough doodle on a notepad, just sketching and drawing as I go. This is an 8 cut on primitive Burlap.

2010 is finally here, and the Apple Cider is all gone, thought that would be a healthy alternative to wine, low cal and a yummy hot drink. God I miss my Apple Cider evenings can't find anymore in the stores.

When Mommy gets Busy

Have you ever noticed that when mommy gets busy the children will act up?

As the story goes, as soon as the phone rings the kids want something. Well when mommy gets too busy in this house puppy gets busy too. Before Christmas I was doing a project working day and night and not getting the daily doggie walks in on a timely schedule, so Libby (my dog) took matters into her own paws. Each day she would dig at the corner off my rug!!! now this is just something old and with recycled worms but either way I'll have to fix it.

Normally, she does not bother with my rugs around the house other than to lay on them, but this one took a beating in the photo above.

This is the little angel herself after her trip to the groomer today, I had her hair nicely up in a clip and she quickly pulled that out.

Below is the wool I used to start my next project, 4 recycled colors for the wording and now I'm starting the flowers.

Enjoying Christmas, maybe too much

I just love Christmas with all the food and visiting, I have not been on-line or even reading Blogs on purpose, Why? because my job entails hours and hours of being attached to computers and the best mental therapy for me is not being in the virtual world for a few days.

I was visiting today with my Grandpa , several Aunts, my Uncle and the new baby of the family. I was thinking "is this how the rich people live?" not a worry in the world, no alarm clock to wake up to, getting all prettied up and roaming around visiting and socializing.

Cinnamon Ornaments and waiting for Santa

Found another one of Nancy's Christmas projects in the attic (she's a busy hooker) size is approx. 24 X 20 framed.

Just finished some old fashion Cinnamon Oraments as special little Christmas Gifts from the kids, they are cooling and drying on the stove now. I brought out the ingredients for the kids one by one.... I said "OK start with the 1 Cup Cinnamon and then 1 Cup Apple Sauce and the third ingredient is THE GLUE" - 1/4 Cup" ..... so don't eat them or we'll be in the Hospital for the evening!

Santa is coming in a week from today, I'm starting to panick now and I'm not sure how I got myself so far behind with my shopping and decorating but I guess I'll have to make the best of it. Tomorrow will be my first shopping day and I hope to have the tree up by Sunday.

Christmas Sampler for the Season

I can not take any credit for this one, this is 100% Nancy's rug 'designed and hooked'. This Christmas Sampler with a variety of cute little Festive images including a Stocking by the Chimney, Candle Sticks, snow covered Mailbox, Church with stained glass window and a Christmas bell.

The photo does not show the sparkly white snow uses on top of the mailbox and along the church roof. The background as a very classy dark green but appears black in this photo. Have a Good Weekend everyone.

A special gift for a special little boy this year. MOMZ WOOL helped to design this rug pattern for one of our Happy Hooker friends. I like the background color and I think it will be perfect for a little boy's room.

Christmas is coming, and coming too fast for my liking. I have only a few small things bought to-date maybe this weekend I'll get in the mood, it's all about work the more you can do the more they drop on you. As you can see from my blogging I have not had time to blog or hook all week myself.

But it's Friday and there is a Christmas party tonight and I did luck into a cute little party dress at the local second hand shop 'Frenchies'.

An update on the house pattern that Grace is working on she was in for a visit today and picked out a soft yellow for the windows. Because most this house is white on white the uses of multiple tones to show shading is necessary.

The front door will have to be re-done as it is also white (not green), Grace will use a very light grey shade to not loss the white door in the front of a white house with white window casings.

Bath Night

My little angel got a Bath the other night.

O how she hates the water but after the long process is over she runs around the house as if to say Look at Me! Look at Me!

It is not just a matter of bathing my dog, she has to be brushed and blowdryed along with some trimming around the eyes, feet and exit point LOL I left a little hair on the top this time to have a ponytail for Xmas bows. Libby has over the years sported the 'long hair' to the floor style with a larger ponytail and the typical short, short cuts.

She got a new jacket too this week from a friend whom bought the jacket for her dog and it was too small. It just varily fits her, I think it will be donated to the shelter.

I slipped into the Dark Side this weekend

This is a new interesting color for the shop, it is a custom dyed color for the circle of a sunflower pattern, it doesn't show easily on the screen but the color is dark brown with black mottled.

One of my other projects this weekend was putting drywall on in the basement my future wool hiding place. We put a few more sheets on and I have hired help coming tomorrow to speed this process up.

Update from the Dye Pot

Dying Facial Tones this week - I put a dark yellow / brown on the end to show the ligher shading of the Facial Tones. The wool background in the middle is the lightest piece and the piece of wool farthest away has some abrushing to create the shadows and contours of the face or body as needed.

Well I think we have everything ready, Nancy and I are off to River Hebert (smaller community than Amherst) tomorrow to teach a group of senior ladies how to hook. This pattern is very basic just a small holly berry with leaves along with a the Poinsetta Flower. O ... and I'm just there for moral support and the go-fer. I will take credit for dying this Golden Yellow and the Santa Red though.

Being 99.9 percent over my illness now with puffers and med's in hand I'm ready to go. If anyone wants to buy a rug hooking kit I have 2 extras made for the just in case people $40.00 with scottish burlap pattern traced on and serged, wool, instructions and a small color photo.

A quiet Saturday Night at home

Don't get me wrong.......

I love company as much as the next person but tonight I'm enjoying the peace and quiet. My day started after the 2 small children and the large child went off to do their thing. I have been sick for several weeks if you've noticed the minimum number of blogs.

With the sun shining every so brightly it showed the dust and dirt of the house and myself being the only human creature of the house whom sees the dirt or is troubled by the sight of it I took to cleaning for several hours. I put the self cleaning oven on and opened the windows. I received as a gift an H2O Steam Mop last year for Christmas and what a rig as my whole house is hardwood floors. I wanted to sanitize my surroundings with all though germs that had been floating in the air.

After my sense of accomplishment it was onto ironing all my new wool colors and dying some others. Mom is doing a Christmas sock pattern class on Wednesday and she has a list of colors for me to have done. These are some of the basic colors I've dyed this week. I'll blog the crazier colors next.

House Update

Just as a mentioned Grace's name she arrived at the door, someone else's ears were burning this week too.

Grace picked up some green for the grass on the front lawn as seen in the photo, she has a few of the shuttles and some outlining started. She is going to use this red/black pattern she found at the Second Hand Store for some of the chinney bricks. Stay Tuned.

New House for Christmas

This is a pattern that Nancy helped design for our friend Grace, she is hoping to get this done for Christmas, this pattern is her son's home I will update you if she comes in to visit this week. I have to dye the Sky Blue for her I actually named it Gracie Sky Blue because that is the color she always picks for her skies. No sensing changing a good thing I guess.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

This is an oldie from my attic, I hooked this one about 8 years ago or more I'm not sure if it was the first or second rug I hooked. One thing about seasonal rugs is putting them away and next year you open the Halloween decoration boxes and there is your rug to re-enjoy again.

The pattern comes from one of those childlike stickers that people put on their windows and it reminded me of my beautiful cat I owned at that time; Middie for Midnight.

I remember it being the first time I hooked with swatches my Mother cut all the wool for me putting in separate lunch bags. I can still hear her saying "don't mix up those bags!"

Middie is long gone but I still enjoy looking at this pattern and thinking about the time I shared with her.

P.S. I really can do traditional rug hooking see.......

Bright Colors of the Week

Thought I'd share one of my dye projects this week, bright as bright can be. I have to re-dye this one already as it's be sold.

Tuesday night was my first night with the Highland Hookers this forum works for me because it forces me to hook and I already learn one new hooking technique. I was the only lady in the room hooking larger than a #5 and most people were hooking Christmas Socks.

Skeleflora update

Little update on my purse, since this photo I have the outlines on the flowers on the opposite side done and I picked up some ribbon and put just a touch of black/gold into the background. I just signed up for the local Highland Hookers group under RHD and plan to attend their hook-in tomorrow night, I'm quite uses to hooking curled up in bed but I'm hoping this group will encourage me to hook more often. I didn't sign up for the Ten Minute Hooking group as I would probably just be a failure with the work weeks I have.

Just tonight I got home an hour after work and someone found my home number and phoned me begging to go to the shelter with them to get their puppy who had been picked up by the dog catcher. The shelter can not afford to be open everyday and their puppy that had just been spayed could be there for several days. So being one of the few people with a key (and a sucker) I felt guilty not to go out. After that I get home to 2.5 kids ( 2 kids and a man) trying to make dinner so I finished that job before someone got hurt. But now I'm enjoying my Laptop with wifi and a large screen TV in my favorite place on my bed.

Fibre Art Festival's Saturday Hook-In

Today was the Fibre Arts Festival's last day, there was a hook-in at the local Tantramar Theatre. Lynne O'Brien-Lines started the day with her opening speech welcoming everyone to the 2nd Annual Fibre Arts Festival.

On the stage was a collect of local artist's rugs.

I tried to get a photo of the whole room to show the number of people who attended the hook-in.

Several vendors were on-hand to supply the ladies with foundation cloth , yarn, and wool. The girls looked like kids in a candy store. LOL

I decided to go to the hook-in even though I should have stayed home in bed, I've been very sick since Thanksgiving Week but I talked myself into going. I'm glad I did go as I got to meet this sweet lady Donna in the photo above. She's quite the artist and was hooking three times faster than I.

Part Two , the Bala Bag Queens

Group photo of the girls, reminds me of a school classroom everyone working along deep in thought. We were all peeking at each others projects and there was some wool envy going around as Jen would say. I, myself spied a piece of bright yellow and brilliant green spot dyed directly across the table.

Jennifer brought along a variety of products to custom design our Bala Bag. After seeing one of Jen's purses without the flap I'm undecided now I really like the look of her's without the front flap.

Our own little Amherst hooker girl working away on her purse, thought I share a photo of Kim and return the favor. hehehe

My Skeleflora Purse Class was today

What an exciting day! I spent most of my day hooking and learning the craft of constructing a purse. When I first read the instructions I thought O My this is going to be a painful process but Jennifer Manuell , Fish Eye Rugs explained the instructions very well along with sharing her personal pitfalls she has found designing and hooking her last '20' purses. These will be important experiences as I progress onto the sewing and attaching of handles.

I also attend the Opening Reception tonight for the Fibre Art Festival, it took a little effort to go back out into that rainy cold air but it was all worth it; that glass of red wine warmed me up! and the chatter with some of the girls was worth the effort.

I finally decided on a purse background as you can see in the photo. These may not be the colors that most people would pick but I like them and I guess that is all that matters.

The Little Girl with no Face

This rug is coming along nicely if you remember the Royal Blue that I dyed a few months back for the young hockey girl's jersey.

The hooker/owner of this rug needs some help (from my mother not I) getting the little girls face just right. Anyone that has done facial expressions in Fibre Art knows that if you hook the facial structure wrong this pre-teen hockey girl could appear to be 70 years old just by the wrong tones, shading and bone structure.

I will update you as the rug progresses.

Working away at the Skeleflora Purse Pattern, time is just ticking away and October 13 is getting closer and closer.

I picked out four colors of red for the outlines of the flowers. I'm not 100 percent sure about the background yet, I'm thinking some soft golden yellow hues.

Auction Shopping this weekend past

I was at an Auction this Sunday past and didn't plan to buy a thing...... just going to look around ahhh sure and look what I ended up buying this 6 foot high storage cabinet. Along with this cabinet I also found myself a new 'to me' end table solid oak with carved flowers on the sides.

O how I love a day at the Auction.

This cabinet is much smaller than the last one I had packed full of stuff, what's even better? in the photo below it's filled to the top with all my 1/4 Yard Wool Backgrounds, I still have the other shelving units with the swatches and the 1/2 yards and Yard.

But what a spacesaver this one is!!!
